Nathan Nordstrom, LMT, became a licensed massage therapist in 2001 after graduating from East West College of Healing Arts. He then continued to pursue his education and graduated from Portland State University in 2012 with his Bachelor of Science.
Nathan managed his practices in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington states while additionally maintaining professional license in Georgia. He is also Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (BCTMB) by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB). His experience includes working in retreat spas, medical offices, clinics, sporting events, a hospital, and he has owned Portland Center Spa, a day spa in Portland, Oregon. In Savannah, Georgia, he also managed the sports massage teams for the “Rock N Roll Marathon Series” in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Nathan started teaching massage in Oregon in 2004. In 2006, he assisted in the development and writing of a new massage therapy curriculum at University of Western States’ Massage Therapy Program. In 2012, he moved to Savannah where he was the Therapeutic Massage Program Director at Virginia College – Savannah, Georgia Campus; where he taught classes in a wide variety of topics. He is now on hiatus from teaching in a career college setting to further his continuing education instruction for the benefit of massage therapy professionals.
In 2008, Nathan applied to the NCBTMB as an Approved Provider of Continuing Education to take Educated Touch from a massage therapy practice to the next level. He is most well-known for teaching nationwide classes in the application of ethics in the daily lives of massage therapists. He instructs in technique classes and presents to students in “Bodies and Massage Therapy”, an advanced anatomy class at exhibits such as Body Worlds. In 2018, he started an open forum discussion called “Ethics, Outside the Box.” This weekly online ethics class in a live webinar format opens up discussion on any topic massage-related, specifically focused on considerations surrounding the profession’s Codes of Ethics and Standards of Practice. He is currently training instructors to teach his classes and develop their own classes.
Nathan has served his profession in multiple roles, both locally and nationally over the last 15 years. Amongst other positions within the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), he most-notably served as Chapter President of the Oregon Chapter and served 7 years on the AMTA’s National Board of Directors. In 2016-17 he also served as National President. He has participated in Committees for the AMTA, Alliance for Massage Therapy Education (AFMTE), Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB), he served as a Trustee for the Massage Therapy Foundation (MTF), and is currently serving on the NCBTMB board of directors. In 2010, he organized The Underground Foundation’s first, annual board/table game night, during the 2010 AMTA National Convention, which continues – 100% of the donations collected from attendees go to the massage therapy foundation. In 2015, he also raised over $15,000 for the MTF while running in the Boston Marathon and participating in fundraising through the John Hancock Boston Marathon Non-Profit Program.
